Challenging the Status Quo
Guided by the principle “Per Aspera ad Astra!” (Through Hardships to the Stars), Joaquín Casariego‘s awe-inspiring journey has been a vibrant rainbow of opportunities. Starting from medical school and completing his residency as a specialist in gastroenterology, Joaquín initially envisioned a future in clinical practice. However, life’s unexpected twists led him to delve into clinical research, take on international roles in top pharmaceutical companies, pursue an executive MBA, and eventually found his own company. With an entrepreneurial spirit, steadfast commitment to growth, and determination to help others, Joaquín’s remarkable journey is characterized by resilience, adaptability, and relentless passion.
As the CEO and founder of Aldebarân Health Intelligence S.L., Joaquín Casariego has been leading an international consulting company in the pharmaceutical/biotech and healthcare sectors since 2015. Aldebarân’s innovative approach focuses on transforming companies into learning organizations through experiential learning programs using Clinical Simulation. The flagship program, The Case Method in Health Intelligence, has grown to include over 200 professionals from diverse backgrounds and roles across 20+ countries in Europe, Middle East, and Africa. Complementing this, Aldebarân also offers the 360º Training Program for larger teams, fostering a systemic vision of business strategy and oasations while enhancing professional competences.
In Joaquín Casariego’s business journey, challenges have been inevitable, as soon as innovation flows through his bloodstream. Joaquín acknowledges that while people desire change, they are often resistant to changing themselves due to fear of the unknown. Disruptive ideas from Joaquín and his teams have faced initial resistance, but with patience and resilience, it eventually expires. Joaquín recognizes that life can be unpredictable with its chaotic nature and the role of luck, but he believes in anticipating challenges through wise, not hard, work on a daily basis.
Joaquín commitment to helping those in need through innovative approaches that have the potential to transform lives and even the world serves as his compass. He possesses an indomitable will and resilience to overcome challenges and odds in pursuit of his mission. Inspiring others to join him in this “army” and fight back-to-back for a common purpose fills his heart with joy. Despite the challenges along the way, Joaquín remains determined to enjoy the daily ride and continue making a positive impact on the world. re
In a world that can sometimes feel like a rat race, where mediocrity is often praised and rewarded, and a hostile jungle where everyone is both a predator and prey with little room for symbiosis, Joaquín Casariego holds steadfast to his beliefs. He draws inspiration from the character of Remy in Disney’s “Ratatouille,” daring to be different and transformative, and from “Tarzan,” who adapts, establishes strategic alliances, and brings equilibrium to all creatures in the jungle.
Joaquín draws inspiration from diverse sources, including the motto of the Los Angeles Police Department, “To Protect and to Serve,” and the profound belief of Mahatma Gandhi that strength comes from an indomitable will, not physical capacity. Joaquín’s lifetime goal is to contribute to transforming people’s lives by challenging the status quo through innovative and impactful ideas.
Joaquín Casariego has achieved notable success both professionally and personally. He supported his Janssen Oncology team in EMEA during the challenging year of the COVID-19 pandemic through weekly inspirational emails. He has also brought to life the innovative Case Method in Health Intelligence program, helping to develop the skills of several hundred pharmaceutical professionals. As Director General of the Spanish Clinical Research Consortium, Joaquín has made significant contributions to the field of clinical trials, earning him recognition, including being awarded as an honoree for the Health 2.0 conference in the United States. In addition, he takes pride in his personal accomplishments, including building a loving family and being accepted to join the Opera singers’ workshop group in Madrid.
As a visionary leader steadfast enthusiasm and a positive outlook, Joaquín believes in following a vision, not a person. He dares to take the first step, walks beside his team, supports them in everything they need, and protects them to ensure the accomplishment of the vision. With a deep sense of empowerment, Joaquín prepares and empowers those who could take the torch in his absence, embodying the true spirit of leadership.
As a devoted admirer of Tolkien’s works, Joaquin lives by Gandalf’s wise words: “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.” He understands that time is a precious gift, truly ours to shape and utilize. Joaquin believes that it is up to each individual to choose whether to merely survive in the limited time we have in this world, or to be bold enough to transcend the boundaries of space and time, and venture into an infinite and everlasting realm of transformation and possibility. Carpe Diem!
