Conquering the world of FinTech

In a domain traditionally dominated by men, Shachi Sayata is heralding change by pioneering path-breaking technologies across global fintech. Shachi combines financial acumen with technological expertise to redefine product requirements and leverage data analysis for strategic initiatives. She has played a critical role in the development of sophisticated risk systems, designed to support the smooth clearing of billions in daily transactions. Her impactful work has gone a long way in enhancing transparency and security across the financial industry.

After a successful decade in fintech, Shachi is now a Vice President at Barclays Corporate & Investment Bank, New York, USA. She currently serves in Barclays’ Prime Services group, which has consistently ranked in the top five globally, delivering best-in-class solutions to clients.

Working in the highly competitive financial services industry, Shachi’s been able to make a meaningful impact through dedication, innovation, and a client-first mindset. Speaking about her inspiration, she says, “My inspiration comes from the potential to create meaningful impact — whether through solving real-world problems, helping people grow, or driving innovation that makes life better. I’m inspired by people who lead with empathy, curiosity, and integrity. Their example reminds me that lasting change comes from consistent, values-driven action.”

Shachi grew up in Mumbai, India and earned a degree in Information Technology, followed by an MBA in Finance. Fascinated by global markets, she moved to Chicago to pursue a Master’s in Financial Engineering, deepening her understanding of financial risk management.

After graduation, she joined ICE Clear Credit, the world’s largest CDS clearing house — marking the beginning of her career at the intersection of finance, technology, and risk. She worked on the risk system that calculates margin requirements and helped expand product coverage to include CDS Index Options, laying a strong foundation in credit derivatives and risk management.

At Barclays, she started in the Margin Technology team, building systems across multiple asset classes, including equities, credit, and FX. Her technical and risk modeling expertise led to a transition into a front-office role with the Prime Solutions team.

Recently, Shachi spearheaded the development of an innovative margin model for managing large-scale interest rate derivatives portfolios exceeding $1 billion in market value. Her work significantly enhanced the bank’s risk management capabilities, setting new standards for precision and reliability in derivatives trading.

An emerging global leader, one of Shachi’s key strengths is adaptability. She can stay calm and focused in fast-changing environments and learn quickly when faced with new challenges. She’s also a strong communicator, which helps her bridge the gap between different teams or stakeholders and keep everyone aligned. Another strength is strategic thinking; she enjoys zooming out to see the big picture while still being detail-oriented when execution matters.

Her brilliant career reflects a commitment to excellence, resilience, and leadership in dynamic environments. Following are some of her other accolades:
● Rising Star, Women In Financial Markets – 2025
● Top Women Leaders of 2025, Women We Admire – 2025
● Commencement Speaker, Illinois Institute of Technology, Stuart School of Business – Class of 2017
● Fellow with The Economic Club of New York, and participant in the Bretton Woods Committee’s Future of Finance Working Group.

For Shachi, great leadership is about lifting others up and creating momentum together. At the same time, she’s comfortable making tough decisions when needed and always strives to lead by example, with integrity and accountability.

Speaking about balancing her challenges, she says, “Balancing the demands of my professional and personal life is definitely an ongoing process, not a fixed destination. I’ve learned to prioritise, set clear boundaries, communicate openly, and be realistic about what I can take on. Routines help too. I make space for things that recharge me — a quick walk, journaling, breathwork, or just time offline. And I remind myself that rest is productive. When I take care of myself, I show up better for everything and everyone else.”

In her personal time, Shachi focuses on activities that support both her physical and mental well-being. Health and fitness are a big part of her routine; she enjoys staying active through tennis and horse riding. She also loves visiting the Met; it’s a peaceful escape that feeds her creativity. Most importantly, she makes time to connect with her loved ones.

Today, Shachi’s goals are to keep growing both personally and professionally — sharpening her skills, expanding her perspective, and making a positive contribution to the communities she’s part of. She wants to lead work that’s purpose-driven and collaborative, where she can influence not just outcomes, but also how people feel along the way.

On that note, she shares: “To all the readers of Passion Vista — keep leaning into your passions and staying true to your purpose. Whether you’re building a career, nurturing creativity, or finding your unique voice in the world, remember that success isn’t just about milestones — it’s about how aligned you feel with what matters most to you. Embrace the journey, keep learning, and don’t be afraid to evolve.”
