Dreaming Big, Acting Bold

We’re glad to present this inspiring story of Supurna Malakar, a spirited actress whose path from the vibrant streets of Kolkata to the dazzling world of acting is a testament to her passion and perseverance. Born and raised in the City of Joy, Supurna’s childhood was brimming with energy and a touch of mischief. “I’ve always loved being in front of the camera,” she fondly recalls. “As a Bengali, singing and dancing were just part of life. It shaped me both as an artist and as a person.”

Supurna attended Brahmo Girls School and later earned a degree in Sociology. Yet, it was the performing arts that truly captivated her heart. Growing up in a strict household, her father’s stern demeanor was balanced by his unwavering support. “My father taught us to always hold our heads high,” she reflects. “And my sister, despite living in different cities now, remains a blessing in my life. Our bond is unbreakable.”

From a young age, Supurna was clear about her dreams. “There was never any doubt,” she says. “The dream of acting kept me awake at night.” Her journey began as the face of Senco Gold and Panasonic, which helped her break into modeling. Soon after, she landed a lead role with Zee Media. “The biggest challenge was learning the technical side of the industry,” she admits. “Acting is just one part of it; there’s so much more to learn.”

Supurna’s parents have always been her role models. “Their values, honesty, and unconditional love have shaped who I am,” she says. Her dedication to her craft and relentless drive for excellence keep her moving forward. “There’s always a hunger to do better,” she explains. “I have a long way to go, and I won’t stop striving for greatness.”

When it comes to love and relationships, Supurna has a refreshingly honest perspective. “Love is an eternal feeling, pure and strong,” she says. “Relationships require understanding and effort. Love flows like a river, but building a connection takes work.” She maintains good relationships with her colleagues, some of whom have become lifelong friends.

Outside of work, Supurna loves dancing and traveling with friends and family. These activities help her unwind and recharge. Reflecting on her journey, she offers advice to the younger generation: “No matter what life throws at you, keep going until you make it.”

Gratitude is central to Supurna’s life. She is thankful for her family, friends, and the support she has received. “Starting from scratch in Mumbai wasn’t easy,” she recalls. “But I’m grateful for the courage to face all challenges. I can’t complain.”

Her achievements speak volumes about her talent and dedication. Winning the Best Actress award for “Burning Calcutta” at the New York City International Film Festival was a significant milestone. Her roles in “Kon Kanoner Phool” and “Megher Palok” on Zee TV and Star Jalsa, as well as web series on the Hoichoi platform, have earned her immense love and recognition.

Looking ahead, Supurna remains focused on her craft, with several exciting projects in the pipeline. “There are a few projects in the initial stages,” she hints, “and I’m hopeful for the future.”

Supurna Malakar’s journey from Kolkata to the world of acting is a tale of passion, perseverance, and unwavering dedication. Her authentic and inspiring story serves as a beacon for aspiring artists, proving that dreams, when pursued with relentless effort, can indeed come true.
