From travel to trauma-informed coaching, empowering people all the way…
From a travel professional to a trauma-informed coach and functional medicine health coach, Tamara Beydoun’s journey stands testimony to the power of rising above the odds. As the world battled the pandemic of Covid-19, Tamara amalgamated all her life’s experiences and learnings to elevate her consciousness and emerge as a leading Certified Somatic Trauma-Informed Functional Medicine Health Coach (UKIHCA & ICF approved). As the Founder of her successful independent practice – Tamara Bey Coaching, she now practices a holistic and integrative approach for her clients that addresses their mind, body, and spirit for an empowered life.
As we begin our tete-a-tete with Tamara, we can’t help but wonder how an accomplished Media, Hospitality & Travel expert transformed into an effective Trauma-Informed Health Coach Beginning from her birth, Tamara recalls her journey. She was born in war-torn Lebanon and soon found herself displaced across Europe with her family for years. Finding solace in learning, she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the American Intercontinental University London and Master’s degree in Hotel Management and Marketing from the University of Surrey. She also obtained certifications in Montessori Teaching, English Language Teaching, Social Media: Digital Marketing, and Marketing Alliances & Partnerships.
Therein began her successful professional career across different facets of travel management and marketing. Starting with global hotel chains, she worked at CNN in London; became Market Manager – Overseas Markets for Genève Tourisme & Congrès in Geneva; and turned entrepreneur in 2019 as a Marketing Consultant and Business Development Strategist based in Geneva.
All along she also took on teaching projects as a teaching assistant, English teacher, and Adjunct Professor of Marketing & Communications at the Geneva Business School.
Yet no matter what she achieved and how many countries she travelled to, Tamara remained unfulfilled in her professional and personal life. Although married for three decades with three lovely children, she constantly felt as if something was missing, as if she wasn’t expressing her authentic self and emotions.
Then came the pandemic, and Tamara found herself at a crossroads. Mindful that the children were growing up and that unlike her, she wanted them to be emotionally evolved, Tamara took a tentative step in the world of holistic wellness and got certified from the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy (FMCA).
In layman’s terms, functional medicine treats the root cause of a disease and not just the symptoms. Tamara started working with movement, nutrition, relationships, spirituality, and sleep to bring about healing. Quite often, she found that diseases and setbacks were deep rooted in old patterns and unhealed trauma. She thus got certified as a Somatic Trauma-Informed Coach, which involved positive psychology, brain spotting, and regulating the nervous system.
She also went on to become a Narcissistic Abuse Specialist supporting clients who are either in a highly toxic relationship or have just left one. As someone who went through childhood sexual abuse and adult emotional and psychological abuse herself, Tamara knew only too well the damage a toxic relationship could cause. As she went about using all these tools to align her true values and heal her inner child, Tamara realised she could do much to empower others like her and help them lead their best lives.
She thus established Tamara Bey Coaching in March 2022, and now works with clients all over the world and helps them on a journey of self-discovery towards their optimal wellness vision. As a trauma-informed coach, the question she asks her clients is: ‘How can we minimize the potential fears that are holding you back from reaching your full potential?’ She then takes a deep look into their inner beliefs and cultivates their inner strengths and resilience to make them feel empowered.
“I use a holistic and integrative approach that addresses the mind, body, and spirit. I use my interpersonal skills, compassionate listening, and alliance building to support my clients without judgement and with deep understanding to help them overcome their challenges, explore their possibilities, and embrace their choices,” she says.
Fluent in English, French and Arabic, Tamara offers personal as well as group coaching, online and offline. Her tenacity and natural empathy has made her an inspiring leader and speaker. A humanitarian at heart, she has volunteered at the Croix-Rouge Genevoise.
Firmly believing that it is never too late to start, Tamara feels proud to have followed her heart’s calling and help others heal themselves. After a difficult time, she’s someone who navigates life through being a compassionate being; letting go of any situations that are not within her control and believes that within us we all carry immense resiliency. But her biggest achievement is her three children, whom she calls her ‘teachers’. “When I look at them now, asserting and expressing their emotions, understanding and drawing their boundaries, and communicating gently, I feel driven to continue my work every day.”
