METAMORPHOSING EDUCATION AND LEARNING IN INDIA.
Sir Dr. Chandan Agarwal, a passionate visionary educationist, Founder and Chairman of G.D. Goenka Schools and Institutions of sports(U.P.), also music shares his inspiring story for helping India set the bar for education.
Hailing from Kanpur, Chandan Agarwal is a leader with a great affinity towards education. As the Chairperson for G.D. Goenka Public School and G.D. Goenka La Petite (Toddler House School) he spreads quality education, with schools modeled as per international standards. Another example of translating his vision into reality, he serves as the Director of MS Dhoni Cricket Academy and Jwala Gutta Badminton Academy in Kanpur providing state-of-the-art sports academy with professional guidance. He also runs ‘Shankar Mahadevan Music School’. It is these global standards, the pedagogy and personalized attention to each child, which makes the children prepare for their future and eventually become radical leaders.
Having begun in 2010, Dr. Agarwal has revolutionized Indian education, adopting the best practices from across the world into his schools and institutes. Their new-age facilities like digitally enabled classrooms, advanced sports and extracurricular rooms, fully air-conditioned facilities, and an extensive library, are setting benchmarks pan India.
The best practices executed under the able guidance of Chandan, have led him to receive numerous awards such as the ‘Champions of Change Award 2018’; ‘Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2016’; ‘Top North Indian Educationalist’ by the Times of India and the Hindustan Times; ‘Remarkable Contribution in the Education Sector of Uttar Pradesh (2019)’; ‘Change in the Education Sector, Development of Society (2018)’ and also the prestigious ‘Top 10 School Award by Education World in 2015’, amongst many others. He has also been conferred Knighthood by the Supreme Council of KOPH (Knights of Peace and Humanities).
He himself is a gold medallist MBA from NMIMS University, Mumbai and also an award-winning student from the Goenka College of Commerce and Business Administration in Kolkata. Chandan is closely associated with many NGOs like the Navjyoti India Foundation, Saarthak Foundation, and serves on the Board of Advisors of Wockhardt Foundation and Next Generation Charitable Trust.
He was awarded an honorary Ph.D. from the International University of America, London, in Business Management. With an aim is to serve the society in the best possible way, few of his initiatives are schools, sports academies, music schools, sports lounges, and clubs. These have been witnessed and experiences by popular Sports Personalities, Bollywood Celebrities, Bureaucrats and Judiciary.
Sharing his views on the help Government and policies can offer the Education Sector, he expressed, ‘Instead of involving the private education institutes in too may legal formalities, it would be nicer if the
Government took initiatives on Public-Private Partnership Model in Education, also rebates for the Rural children will help us grow as a Nation. Our rural population has talent and potential, we just need to nurture it. Applaud it. Hopefully, I will able to do so in the near future.’
He states, his mission is to bring world-class facilities in education, sports, music and the hospitality sector and make them accessible and affordable to Tier 2 and 3 of our country. Dr. Agarwal has been lauded by Bollywood Celebrities like Sushmita Sen, Sports Stars like Vishwanathan Anand and many others for his work in Uttar Pradesh. The captain of the Indian cricket team, England cricket team and New Zealand cricket team have visited the school and appreciated the work done.
His school has been awarded as ‘Best Holistic Development School’ and has been rated as ‘Top 10 school of the state’. DGP Uttar Pradesh, Ex. Chief Secretary Uttar Pradesh and Ex. Chief Justice of India for the Extraordinary Contribution Towards Society Helping the Underprivileged, Providing Free Education to Girls, Opening of Development Centers in the Slum Areas.
He was also conferred with other awards like 2017- MAKING A MARK IN THE SOCIETY, Awarded by Dr. Kiran Bedi (Lt. Governor Puducherry); 2015- EMERGING ENTREPRENEUR OF UTTAR PRADESH; 2014- EDUCATION EXCELLENCE AWARD, Awarded by Shri Shashi Tharoor (Ex. Minister of HRD, Govt. of India), amongst many others.
