An Artist and Entertainer, From Passion to Profession
Kickstarting his career as a radio jockey after completing a degree in Engineering, Mihir Joshi worked in radio for about 8 years and then started his own talk show, ‘The MJ Show’. With over 400 episodes of the show, pretty much everyone in the Bollywood music industry has been a guest on his talk show; which also includes actors, dancers, YouTubers and many other entertainers. Mihir has also been a performing singer since 2005 and his band’s debut album, “Mumbai Blues”, released in 2014 is available on all streaming platforms worldwide. He is now about to release his first Hindi single soon enough. The song has been composed and produced by the legendary Leslee Lewis and has been written by Kunaal Verma.
Since April 2018, Mihir Joshi has been doing live Hindi commentary for sports entertainment giant WWE on Sony Sports Ten 3 channel. Over the last 2 years, he has also been making a ton of sneaker-related content on social media as well. Apart from all of this, he has hosted events for dozens of brands and companies all across the country. He believes that although they sound like many different things, he has simply used his voice for a living in the last 19 years.
Ever since his college days, Mihir knew about the potent potential in his voice and desire to be in the entertainment field. He used to be the lead singer of his college band as well. He finds it an amazing task to carve one’s passion into their profession and that is just what he did! He also believes that he is an extremely fortunate person because of his wife, Neha, who is extremely understanding and supportive. “When you have a partner who can make you better at what you do, it is perfect. She’s the reason I’ve been able to balance my professional and personal life” he exclaims.
Even today, Mihir believes he is as hungry as he was when he began about 19 years ago. Along with that hunger, he has acquired a bit of wisdom and experience that helps him to do a lot more than he could’ve done when he began his journey. Being able to make a living out of the things he’s loved – namely music, sneakers, WWE, and pop culture – can be owed to his business acumen. He is driven by the desire to be the best he can be at what he does; even if it means that he is required to evolve constantly.
In early 2020, when COVID 19 took the world by storm, Mihir realized soon after the first lockdown that this wasn’t something that would end soon. Predicting a lengthy stretch indoors, he pivoted and figured that he’d have to do something to stay busy from home. This is when he took his talk show online and since 30th March 2020, he has done over 300 episodes of The MJ Show Live online. During this time he also started hosting online events for various brands and worked on improving his knowledge base about the things he loved. The start to creating sneaker-related content also took birth during the pandemic and now it serves as a completely new stream of income and interest for him!
“I’m a hardcore hustler and I’ve always figured a way out to make things work. When I think about doing something, I go all in. I’ve always believed in myself, and that self-belief has helped me succeed in a field that is extremely difficult to succeed in.” Despite his strengths, Mihir thinks that his biggest weakness is possibly the fact that he’s not the best businessman that one could be. He feels that every artist needs to value themselves better and ideally have good representation to handle their business.
Mihir has been a recipient of various awards and accolades. During the 2008 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai, he assisted with and host live news for SKY News UK and that work was nominated for a BAFTA Award. Mihir Joshi Band’s debut album, “Mumbai Blues”, won the GIMA Award for Best Rock Album in 2015. The MJ Show was a prime-time show on NDTV Prime for 2 seasons and was also shot at the Facebook office in Mumbai for about a couple of seasons.
Despite all these achievements, one of the biggest moments for Mihir, in his personal life, was the birth of his son Neil. While he’s done a lot of really cool things in his life, being Neil’s father is definitely his favorite!
