When I was a little child, I used to be quite shy. That changed quite a lot over the years. I was faced with many situations and built certain skills that made my confidence of a much higher level than before. When I reached around the age of 14, I would have people ask me from time to time: „Amy, how are you so confident?” I suppose that this was because of many different factors that had come into play. Such as how I was raised, the people I met, and the experiences that I had gone through. The fact that my parents are quite confident, and that I was encouraged to try and learn how to do many things already as a child also added to that. Yet when I was asked by a friend a child, how it is that I am so confident, and how they can become more confident, I simply replied: „I don’t know, I guess you just have to try to be less shy.” So in other words, I had no idea what confidence was, where I got it from, and how people can build their confidence.
Now, as a coach, I have a completely different understanding, much more knowledge, and very different perspective on this topic. And if you are interested in finding out how you too can become more confident, you can read more of this article to find out how.
I now know that there are ways, that in which people can boost their confidence. I wish to share my knowledge with you dear reader, so you too can add more value to your life because of reading this article, and become more confident also. By being more confident, you can improve the way that you think and feel about yourself, the way that you behave, how well you do at work, how well you communicate with others, the quality of your relationships, and many more aspects of your life.
So if you are beginning your journey of self-confidence, or are trying to make your confidence level even higher than it already is – I will offer you some practical tips and hopefully supportive insights.
First of all, being self-aware, and knowing yourself well is very important. When you know whom you really are, have an objective and accurate view and perspective of how you behave and why, and understand both your strengths and weaknesses, you can then focus on using your inner strengths to your advantage. You can also work on improving your skills so that you become even better at those particular skills. For example, if you know that you have a skill when it comes to languages, you can use that in your career. You can work on improving your knowledge of that language, how to communicate better with others, and use that language correctly and efficiently in your personal life and work. Knowing your weaknesses, will help you know what you should avoid and ask for support from others with. If you aren’t great at sales for example, you can hire someone to do that for you so that you don’t lack anything in this area if it is important in your work. You can also upgrade your skills and try to learn what you don’t know, so that you don’t need to ask people for help as much. Or depending on how much you learn, not need other people help with this topic possibly at all.
Whether it is a weakness or a strength, it is important to be aware of it, to embrace and accept it. Then you can decide whether you do or do not want to work on self-improvement and that particular skill. And also how you will use your strengths and weaknesses in your daily like. You can then know which step to take, in order to get the best outcome. And don’t worry, nobody has all skills mastered. Some people have many different skills however, and can then deal more easily when confronted with various situations. Their ability to use their skills well, can help them deal with a certain task or situation. It really takes a lot of focus and repeating the same thing until it becomes easier, and for someone to become an expert in a specific topic.
However, with practise, exposing oneself to new situations, needing to figure out how to deal with them, to find the way and skills within yourself, as well as the possibility to overcome challenge or complete a task – that is exactly the way in which you can build your confidence. You learn that you can manage a new situation. That you have what it takes in you, to get through that what was not fully understood or known to you before. You start believing in yourself more, and you start seeing yourself as a more competent person as a result of overcoming something that you had never done before. As you do more things that you never pursued before, as you start trusting yourself more, that you can actually manage those situations, you can become more confident as a result.
I hope that you will use this to your own benefit in the upcoming days, and work on your skills, openness, and confidence levels.
