Have you ever thought that some people were destined to do specific things? Like soldiers protecting their country or teachers inspiring their students? If you are feeling stuck and questioning whether you have a purpose in life or if you have a passion for anything, I am here to help.
Let’s start with what passion is. Passion is the driving force that keeps us going. It’s the reason we wake up in the morning, the desire to do something. For me, passion is not just wanting to do something, but needing to do it. If you wake up feeling empty or don’t have the energy to keep going, trust me, I have been there.
Last year, I convinced myself that I wanted to be an engineer. I thought it was my dream, but my body was giving me signals that it wasn’t. I didn’t want to wake up in the morning, and everything felt like torture. When I asked myself if being an engineer for the rest of my life would make me happy, I felt stuck, and it was as if I could not breathe. When I shared my thoughts with my family, they told me that I could choose a different path. That was a relief.
Then I started to wonder, “What now?” because I never thought that there would be other options. I realized that I needed to find something I was passionate about. To find answers to my future, I decided to ask my past. I remembered that I have always loved reading books, imagining scenarios in my head, and telling stories to my friends. That made me realize that my passion was writing.
I asked myself the same question again, “Would being a writer make me happy for the rest of my life?” And the answer was yes! After that, I decided that I wanted to start writing my book. Every day, I woke up with excitement, and all day, I thought about my characters and what to write. Even at night, I saw them in my dreams. Finally, I was sure writing was my passion, and I want to share some tips to find yours.
First, try what I did. Ask your past questions; maybe it can give you the answers for your future. Try to remember what you liked as a kid. If it doesn’t work, try new hobbies. Ask yourself what you would do if money didn’t matter or if people wouldn’t judge you. That way, you can see what makes you happy.
If you find your passion, hold on to it tightly. You are one of the luckiest people in the world. I can imagine that you might be having some doubts and questions, like “What if I am not good enough? What if I do not succeed in this?” That’s normal, but please remember, when JK Rowling started to write Harry Potter, she could never guess it would be one of the best-selling books in the world. Or do you think Taylor Swift would believe she would be one of the most famous superstars in the world when she started to write her songs at 12? No! But they did what they loved and didn’t quit. So just keep doing what you love.
If you still can’t find your passion after trying and trying, consider this: maybe your passion is finding your passion.
