An embodiment of perseverance and determination
Lauren C. Nelson is a visionary leader in workplace belonging, empowerment, and inclusion, who has achieved great success through her vision and determination. From her humble beginnings as one of five children, Lauren has overcome challenges and created a successful consulting business, Partner for Impact. In 2022, she launched The Powerhouse Era, a coaching program which helps professionals establish authority in their industry, build a publication-worthy personal brand, and increase their online presence to help them stand out in the marketplace.
Lauren found hope and joy in education early on, and went on to earn a degree in business. She spent time in international development non-profits before taking her passion for helping others to the consulting field. In her consulting career, Lauren has worked with government agencies and companies around the globe, providing expert strategies and training to create positive change in communities.
As a first-generation businesswoman and entrepreneur, Lauren has faced a number of challenges throughout her career. One of the biggest challenges was figuring out how to navigate the business world on her own, without the support of an experienced family member or mentor who has gone through the process before. Access to start-up funds was also a challenge, but despite these obstacles, Lauren was able to triumph and make a name for herself in her industry by filling her knowledge gaps and finding the necessary support and teachers wherever she could.
As an ambitious businesswoman, Lauren has had to make sacrifices to achieve success, including putting off starting a family to ensure stability. However, she has learned to set healthy boundaries, allowing her to cherish her personal life and spend quality time with her loved ones. She has mastered the balancing act of work and home through effective time management and prioritizing what matters most to her.
Lauren believes that today’s organizational culture is becoming increasingly supportive for working women, but there is still room for improvement. She says, “Corporations are making efforts to improve facilities for women workers, such as offering flexible working hours and parental leave. However, there is still a lack of representation of women in leadership positions and a gender pay gap. It’s important for companies to continue to actively work towards creating a culture of inclusivity and equality for all employees. Additionally, it’s crucial for women to support each other and speak up for their rights in the workplace. Through the Powerhouse Era, she empowers women to take control of their careers and strive for the leadership positions they deserve.
Lauren believes that the secret to rising to a more prominent role in an organization is all about establishing authority and building a personal brand. Another aspect of becoming a prominent woman leader is about networking. By building strong relationships, women can get the support and mentorship they need to achieve their goals. Attending industry conferences, participating in professional organizations, and reaching out to successful women in your field can all be effective networking strategies.
Additionally, women should also focus on developing their skills and knowledge in their field. This can be done by taking on challenging projects, seeking out training opportunities, and continuously seeking feedback on their performance. By continually learning and growing, women will be able to position themselves as valuable assets to their organizations and increase their chances of being recognized for promotions and leadership positions.
