Shining Bright Like A Diamond
Living by her long-term goal to “constantly learn, grow and be inspired”, Barkha Singh is a shining star whose radiant smile, charming personality and powerful performances have captured the hearts of the audience. With versatility running in her blood, she is an actor, influencer, host, and a VJ whose stints in popular shows like ‘Masaba Masaba’, ‘Please Find Attached’, ‘Murder Meri Jaan’ have made her a household name. Her 2022 movie releases, ’36 Farmhouse’ and ‘Maja Ma’, have sealed the deal of her as an expressive actor who is here to stay.
Barkha grew up in a military household and completed her studies at a convent school. These two factors contributed to her being disciplined, which can even be considered a significant factor in her stardom. She was a very shy kid till the 1st grade, and then suddenly, her personality shifted. She fondly recalls, “The mischief and the shenanigans sparked confidence in me that prompted me to participate in many extracurriculars. That is when I discovered my interest in performing. My parents’ only condition to let me participate in more than one extracurricular activity at a time was that my grades should not be compromised.”
Her academic brilliance sparkled when she managed to be a state topper in her board exams while simultaneously pursuing her other interests. She gives credit to her parents for inculcating discipline, diligence and the ability to multitask, by which she has been soaring high in two full-time professions till now.
After completing college, Barkha was offered a great corporate job offer through her campus placement, but her heart was set on the entertainment industry. She subsequently picked a television show, and since then, the journey has only been upward and forward. She started working in the youth space and moved to digital platforms. With the rise and growing popularity of OTT networks, her work became even more recognisable, and her acting prowess was widely appreciated.
Her social media presence has also been phenomenal, as her 3 million followers on Instagram are enamoured by her beauty, charm and wittiness. She loves posting travel, lifestyle, and humour content on her page. After having a phenomenal career graph, she truly enjoys what she is doing and says, “Last year, I was blessed to have 5 releases, and I’m hopeful and excited for the upcoming ones. So I guess if I have to summarise my journey, it’s been full of surprises, and I can’t wait to see what more life has to throw at me and everyone else around me.”
Barkha shares her memorable experiences on the sets of her 2022 release, ‘Maja Ma,’ and remarks, “On the first day of shooting for Maja Ma because we started with a big combination scene of my character meeting the family for the first time. The excitement combined with the nervous energy to do a scene with amazing actors like Madhuri Dixit, Sheeba Chaddha, Gajraj Rao, and Rajit Kapoor was truly a memorable experience.”
When it comes to the challenges she faced while establishing herself as an actor, she felt it was all about getting to know people who shared a similar passion. She felt grateful to have come across people who saw her talent and provided her with good opportunities. Barkha constantly strives to challenge herself and push her limits as an actor. Due to this mentality, she is always looking out for more diverse and powerful roles, which comes as a source of motivation for her.
She keeps her work and life balanced by following these simple thumb rules, which she states, “By not getting emotionally attached to the extreme ups and downs of my profession. Having a close circle of old friends that are not part of the industry and a family trip every once in a while is essential as they are a constant reminder of the important things in life.” She swears by a disciplined workout regime, home-cooked meals, practising meditation, some self-pampering sessions and travel which keeps her motivated and focused.
It is no secret that Barkha is an animal lover, and their welfare is very close to her heart. In regard to this cause, she emphasises, “When time permits, I try to work with a bunch of animal welfare NGOs to raise funds for treatments and facilities and also raise awareness about adoption cases, spot treatment and ambulance services because there are a lot of people who want to help but are unsure of what to do in emergency cases related to animals.”
She is a firm believer in the power of social media, especially apps like Instagram, which has shown in recent times its effectiveness in creating awareness. She feels that during times of emergency, social media can be a blessing in disguise as it rampantly mobilises support for the needful.
The advice she would give to young individuals aspiring to enter the entertainment industry says, “Consistency and presence of mind are two things one should always stand by. You are your own product, so you must invest in yourself both physically and mentally.”
Barkha is grateful to have had the great opportunity to work on good projects with talented people. Regarding her future project, she keeps her lips tightly sealed since the project is in the post-production stage. She discloses that this new project will make her step into unchartered territory, which will definitely be a treat for her audience and fans.
She gives a message to her fans and supporters who have been ardently following her journey and exclaims, “I would like to thank everyone who has supported me through my journey for their constant appreciation and motivation; it really is special to me. And as a message, I would like to remind us all to live in the present moment because that is what truly matters.”
