A highflying career as a professional chartered accountant, Mr. Saurabh Palsania graduated in 1996 and got the opportunity to work with JK Cement Ltd. in finance and commercial functions. During the last 26 years, he has worked with Ambuja Cement, Shree Cement and Dalmia Cement as well where he was endowed with the opportunities to operate as Finance Head, Unit Head and Commercial Head. Saurabh looks forward to becoming a CEO or Business head of some reputed organisation where he could utilise his skills and implement new technologies and innovation. He believes that each day comes with new challenges, hope and vision with which he devises strategies for the same or gets the satisfaction of completing those tasks. A blessed married man and a father of two children, he has always been inspired by his uncle who was a C.A. himself. This led him to follow his uncle’s footprints to lead the team for enhancing the profitability of the organization.
As a person fond of learning something new, he likes meeting and interacting with people who are energetic and strive for innovation. He chose the field where he believes he’s given the opportunities to continuously learn, innovate and nurture his skills. This in turn makes him a techno-commercial person, fit enough to take up an opportunity to do something of his own in the future.
Their business vision for him is to be a leader in building materials and evoke pride in their stakeholders through customer centricity, innovation, sustainability and upholding their values. They have created a business philosophy to meet this vision and that is ‘Clean and Green is profitable and sustainable.’ This enables them to lookout for opportunities in every aspect with fresh thought and re-learn the things to bring about innovation and sustainability, thus helping them stand out in the crowd.
Balancing professional and personal lives is a million-dollar question as per Saurabh but he makes sure to extract 30 minutes in the morning and at least an hour in the evening for his family. This in turn also helps him to gain the energy to take on professional challenges. He tries to imitate the same with his peers and subordinates to enable and get their support to make professional life easier.
Logical thinking and cost analysis are a strong part of a Chartered Accountant and since Saurabh has been looking after the commercials of the manufacturing business for a long while, which requires one to think like a businessman for taking any decision, hence, the acumen of a businessman is strongly built-in. “Even sometimes, I think to do something on-my-own because of the overall experience of the business but psychological barriers to come out of the profession and take the lead to run a business is what restricts me.”
Innovation and catching new ideas and things happening in the world are the driving passion for Saurabh Palsania. In today’s world, where everyone is talking about carbon footprints, increasing temperatures and climate change, the most important thing which attracts him is to become Greener. He exclaims “I am fortunate that my organization is well aware of it and thinks about contributing in a big way to make the earth green and clean. I feel proud that I am one of the pillars to drive and support the Green Initiative which is either replacement of fossil fuels or reducing carbon emissions as well as replacing diesel with Electric Vehicles.”
The onset of COVID-19 called for his team to switch to newer ways of doing business where marketing, commercial, finance, IT etc. were all working virtually. He was also able to curtail many expenses, connect to customers, get their online support and optimise other overhead expenses. Being analytic and innovative, he strives to improve the EBITDA of the organization and thus bring in more revenue by innovative methods and contributing to the organization as well as the economy of India.
Always endeavouring to introduce innovation, Saurabh believes the industry must always grow in an environment-friendly manner and claims that they are the first to start Bulk Movement of Fly-ash through railways, introduce Electric Trucks with a carrying capacity of 40 tons to be used for inward logistics in Indian Cement and thus replace fossil fuels by the waste of other industries leading to reduction of carbon footprints. He has been recognised with many awards such as Supply Chain and Leadership Award – 2020, CPO of the Year 2022 – Procurement Excellence Award, Indian Achievers Award – 2022.
Value and ambitions make a person successful and joyous. Saurabh shares his wisdom that people must be available to adapt new ideas and innovations because growth is a long journey.
