The Story of Unbridled Passion and Persistence
Nash Narasimhan Tupil, a man whose journey is a demonstration of passion and grit, has climbed the ladder of success with unwavering determination and a heart brimming with purpose.
Hailing from a middle-class Chennai family, Nash’s early life was immersed in a tradition of excellence and education. His family’s legacy included accomplished individuals who left indelible marks in various fields. Ranganathan Street, a Chennai landmark, pays homage to his great-grandfather, a civil servant during the British Raj. The legacy continued with his grandfather, Dr. T. S. Raghavan, who earned a Ph.D. in Botany from King’s College, London, and gained prominence as a cytogeneticist in India. Following this line of achievement, his father, T. Govindarajan, served as a sports writer for ‘The Hindu’ newspaper and was ex-president of the Sports Journalist Federation of India (SJFI). His mother, Jaya was the first woman graduate in her entire family in 1953.
The pursuit of knowledge was ingrained in his DNA, leading him to undertake an education that would eventually mold him into the visionary leader we know today. With a degree in Mechanical Engineering from PSG Tech, Coimbatore, and an MBA in Marketing and Finance from BIM, Trichy, Nash laid the foundation for a brilliant career.
His journey into the corporate world seamlessly fused his passions for automobiles and computers. After dedicating five years to the automotive industry, he made his leap into the thriving IT sector in 1996. Loyal to HP for an impressive 26 years, he excelled in various roles, from Channel and Category management to Services, Marketing, and E-commerce, not only in India but also across the Asia Pacific. Today, as the Head of Services Business for HP Online Store EMEA & APJ, his strategic finesse and leadership have propelled him to the pinnacle of success.
Early in his career, Nash encountered burnout when work took precedence over everything else. This turning point in his journey inspired a more balanced and holistic approach to life. Realizing the significance of nurturing both his career and well-being, he embarked on a new path, achieving financial independence and nurturing relationships with family and friends.
To break the pattern, he took up several other passions, from imparting knowledge as a B-school faculty to becoming an avid photographer, adventurous biker, and insightful blogger. His ceaseless curiosity, creativity, vitality, and optimism stem from his diverse pursuits. In 2021, well above 50 years of age, he did an arduous adventure motorcycle trip to ICY Himalayas from Guwahati to Tawang.
Purpose fuels passion, and for a business leader like Nash, it’s multifaceted. It includes aspirations like boosting customer and employee satisfaction, surpassing market profitability norms, or aiming for market leadership. As his responsibilities expanded beyond national borders to regional and global arenas, so did his purpose. This fervor drives him to continuously push boundaries, explore new horizons, and set innovative standards.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Nash’s career encountered challenges and opportunities. The shift to remote work and online learning increased demand for personal computers. However, supply chain disruptions, particularly in microchips, posed a threat. Under Nash’s leadership, HP adapted and expanded e-commerce logistics, emerging more resilient and enhancing their market leadership.
A successful leader’s strengths are marked by boundless passion and inexhaustible energy, which Nash possesses. His curiosity drives him to be a perpetual learner, and his positivity and results-oriented approach make him a transformative force. However, even successful leaders acknowledge their weaknesses, and Nash is no exception. His journey of improvement continues as he seeks to enhance his listening skills and remain grounded.
The accolades and awards that have adorned Nash’s journey are proof of his remarkable achievements. In 2023, he was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award from BIM Business School, Trichy, and the Global Top 200 Marketer Award from White Page International, a brand consultancy firm based in London. His professional achievements include the HP President’s Club Award for Sales Excellence (2016), the HP Amaze Club Award from HP CEO (2019), and the HP 25 Years Service Award (2022). On a personal level, his passion for photography led to the British Council Award (1996, Cityscapes) and the Fuji Award (1997).
