Power Woman in Automobile Detailing
‘Business to husband karte honge, aap kya karti hain?’, ‘What are you doing in your career?’ – Used to hearing similar questions regularly as the Co-Founder and Managing Director of CARJAX Autocare, it didn’t take Jyoti Sinha long to prove her mettle as a woman entrepreneur skilled in Automobile Detailing, and emerging amongst the ‘Top 10 Women Entrepreneurs in the Automobile industry in India’.
“I am equally adept at detailing a car single-handedly as I am in handling sales, marketing and negotiations,” says Jyoti, who began her career as a Marketing & Finance professional.
Hailing from the small town of Jagdishpur in Bihar, Jyoti grew up with her elder siblings – Ravi, an Engineering Manager with Walmart, an ex-Microsoft employee. After completing her graduation from T. John college and PGDM in Finance & Marketing from IBA, Bangalore, Jyoti joined Axis Bank as FDO where she was adjudged Top Performer – Pan India. Thereafter, she continued to win laurels with reputed names like Reliance Securities, Group M and PVR Cinemas.
After her marriage in 2015, her husband Ankur drove her first car from Delhi to Bangalore. He, got its interiors done through a reputed vendor but the result was sorely disappointing. An automobile enthusiast, Ankur along with Jyoti bought all the items, kits, chemicals and accessories required for doing the Exterior and Interior detailing themselves. This time, the result was so astounding and inspiring that not only did Jyoti discover her passion but the duo established CARJAX Autocare in 2017.
Starting as a door-to-door detailing service, they went Private and registered the company in 2019, opened their 1st experience centre in Bangalore in 2021, and soon launched a ‘Made in India’ range of products. Today, CARJAX Autocare is a market leader in Premium Interior and Exterior Detailing services for Cars and Motorbikes at affordable prices across various segments which include ceramic coating, graphene coating, PPF, etc.
As Founders, Jyoti and Ankur have achieved consistently high ratings for 5 years now. Jyoti’s exposure to various fields like banking, media and entrepreneurship has proved an added boon. “Stringent quality checks form the core of CARJAX. And since we charge by surface area, you get quality with affordability. We have never lost a client, yet!” says Jyoti proudly.
Innovative and go-getter, Jyoti is one of the important pillars of CARJAX. She firmly believes that a vehicle is an extension of one’s personality and an emotional attachment is inevitable. However, there is a tendency to look at a vehicle as a depreciating asset instead of an investment that provides a feeling of success, an emotional high, comfort, and the culmination of hard work it reflects for many. “Automotive majors maintain that detailing is a relatively western concept, but I completely beg to differ. Except in India, nowhere in the world do we have a day dedicated to ‘Vahan Pooja’,” she opines.
Jyoti’s strong will is her biggest strength behind her success. “Being stubborn is sometimes good, as is realising your weakness. For instance, if I delegate a job to someone then I trust them 100% and don’t recheck. I learnt the hard way that delegation also needs supervision with a mechanism for checks and balances.”
For Jyoti, being a successful businesswoman is not about attaining great heights alone, but about bringing transformation to society and strengthening our roots. “Everyone says business is a huge risk and exerts tremendous pressure. However, my take is – what greater joy than supporting numerous families and contributing to the economic development of our country? The exposure I get, the skill sets I develop, have no match,” she exclaims.
Very soon, with support from Mr Vijay Swastik of Swastik Fabs “4×4 vehicle safety mods and equipments, Bengaluru, Jyoti, Ankur and Cdr Shivesh, a close mutual friend, intend to embark on creating a record for traveling from Umling La (the highest motorable Mountain Pass in the world) to Kanyakumari in the shortest possible time. There is no life without adventure, claims Jyoti.
In keeping with her endeavor to further CARJAX’s CSR activities, Jyoti and Ankur valiantly fought the pandemic while helping thousands of others: “We ran campaigns to deliver ration to the needy and helped 400 families for 30 days. We manufactured 800 shields for Police personnel and other Covid warriors. The drive was covered by Dainik Bhaskar. Being an animal lover, everyday meals for approx 80-90 stray dogs were prepared by me and Ankur. At a time when everyone was playing cautious, we took the plunge and opened our 1st Experience Studio (and a Master Franchisee), employing several people in search of a livelihood. This is what I live for!” exclaims a content Jyoti.
