Jaslyin’s ancestral roots in South East Asia, tie back to a humble family prioritizing hard work. Her parents’ relentless determination, particularly her father’s inspiring transition from a carpenter in Penang to a successful entrepreneur in Singapore, shaped Jaslyin’s appreciation for diligence. Despite limited means, she and her brother learned the significance of self-discipline and aspiring for a better future.
Jaslyin’s deliberate choice to pursue a law diploma instead of college was fuelled by a pragmatic determination to provide for her family’s financial stability at a young age. This savvy decision enabled her to join the workforce earlier and contribute to her family while simultaneously laying the foundation for her future academic and career goals.
Her path towards success commenced during her internship at a law firm, where she uncovered her knack for the written word. Embracing her natural affinity for language and communication, she took on the ambitious pursuit of becoming a skilled copywriter. Fuelling her drive was a portfolio brimming with captivating content, contributions to renowned magazines, and the ultimate achievement of scoring a coveted role as the sole copywriter at a boutique advertising agency.
After her experience with the agency, her enthusiasm for communication and marketing only grew. Her journey has taken her through esteemed organizations such as OCBC, State Street Bank, Credit Suisse, EY, Kantar, and she now excels in her current role at Citibank.
Jaslyin is also the founder of Mad About Marketing (MAM) Consulting, which is a demonstration of her passion for everything marketing. MAM offers both B2C and B2B clients advisory services on brand, content, and marketing transformation, change management communications and customer experience management.
Throughout her career, one can easily spot Jaslyin’s commitment to making principled decisions, perfection, and navigating through various roles and companies. Jaslyin’s earlier career and personal life went through a tumultuous time filled with divorce, family tragedy, unexpected job changes, and a challenging manager. Despite these obstacles, she boldly decided to take charge of her own happiness. Throughout it all, she exhibited exceptional determination in keeping her personal and professional lives separate, demonstrating an incredible resilience in the face of adversity.
As Jaslyin delved deeper into her spiritual journey, she found meditation an essential tool for staying connected with her inner self and achieving mental clarity. Her love for travel only heightened this connection as she immersed herself in different cultures and gained valuable grounding and inspiration along the way.
Jaslyin’s career showcases her exceptional adaptability and versatility. Beyond traditional marketing and communications, she fearlessly embraced diverse challenges, including change management and digital transformation. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as she ventured into e-commerce in her early days, successfully launching her online fashion business after graduation even before online retail was popular in Singapore.
