Leading Innovation in Automation, AI/ML, and Research Excellence
“Be a tiger in a race in this evolving world, or else we will be washed away without being noticed.” Balaji Singaram has always believed in carving a path towards success without waiting for external aid. His work and research papers have been instrumental in leading the charge in new thoughts and ideation going forward to international acclaim. His research has started a chain reaction of even more research towards the betterment of society.
Balaji started his career as a Manual QA Tester after which he switched his attention towards automation whose popularity started increasing gradually. He then subsequently shifted his work to automation by quickly learning the tools, scripts and language which allowed him to gain humongous experience throughout his career. Within a few years of his career, he grew to lead a team of small numbers to multiple head counts.
His journey of learning AI/ML led him to a profound discovery. He says, “I found that deep learning applications can be used to diagnose diseases, which inspired me to publish a research journal for breast cancer diagnosis and prediction of treatment response.
When it comes to the importance of hard work or luck in life, Balaji is confident that hard work is the cornerstone for his growth since luck has never been part of his life. When a new tool comes into the picture in the software world, he doesn’t wait for blogs and learning platforms like YouTube and Pluralsight to make their in-depth knowledge about the new software public. These tools did not even exist when he started his career; instead, he started his journey by exploring the features and directly implementing them in the projects.
When he joined TA Instruments and Waters, he led a critical role as a Lead SDET, a new domain called Material Science. It was a challenge to learn a new domain along with material science software solutions for thermal analysis, rheology, microcalorimetry, and mechanical testing. The research towards Material Science software diverted to learning AI/ML, which led to implementing Machine Learning Algorithms for testing the different material science equipment for stress, strain, and electrical properties. All these learning brought me new ideas on how to predict state-of-health of lithium-ion for improving the Battery Management Systems, and helped me to publish research journal under Nanotechnology Perceptions for the same topic.
Balaji’s passion stems from learning something new and starting to adopt or implement it before the proper approach. He wanted to define how to approach that and lead the learners by training and guiding them in the proper direction.
He describes his goal, which is to continuously pursue research papers in international research journals. He remarks, “I feel happy when many of them cite my multiple research papers from international journals. This also inspired many research journals to publish in the upcoming months. I am elated that my research journal has social causes like fire detection and advanced fire safety, Multi image Super-Resolution Reconstruction offering robust solutions for applications requiring high quality image, and decision support systems for increasing productivity.”
As a seasoned researcher, his illustrious career has earned him several accolades and recognition from various organizations. He has been publishing research papers in different research journals, which bagged him the coveted Indian Achievers Award in 2024 In Recognition of Outstanding Professional Achievement & Contribution towards nation-building. This award is known for acknowledging and recognizing the efforts and dedication of citizens who come forward to serve the nation in various domains like healthcare, education, entrepreneurship, social activism and unity. Since July 2024, he has been a Senior IEEE Member for his professional commitment to the advancement of technology and documented achievements of significance.
When it comes to leadership, Balaji says, “I believe that leaders are not born; they are made despite the challenges. As a leader, I always listen to everyone and learn from kids along with inspiring everyone to follow in their footsteps. Leaders are ready to accept mistakes if something goes wrong, and the biggest leader is one who oversees mistakes in advance or learns mistakes from others who follow a direction by not doing that. This philosophy has guided my leadership approach and inspired those around me.”
