This duo is a power house of places and food you should try specially in Ahmedabad and also with their Travels, Worldwide!!
India is country of varied culture and one such culture is where we live – Gujarat. Gujarat is a feeling that everyone coming here feels in its atmosphere and most importantly the food. The land of Gandhiji for some obvious reasons is a dry state and you don’t get alcohol which has led to people thinking outside Gujarat that it would be boring and the most common notion of it not having any night life which as we said is a notion/myth and is not at all true.
Gujarati love their food which is so evident now that every traveler going abroad will have few Theplas with them as snack. So one such city in Gujarat, Ahmedabad – where we belong to is a city so vibrant and warm, with tons of cafes and restaurants because come on we love eating out.
We are here going to highlight some “MUST- GO” places when in Ahmedabad for of course some lip smacking Gujarati food. Not that Ahmedabad only has Gujarati food but come on you need to know about the food heritage of the “Heritage City” in India.
Now if you are already from Ahmedabad, you have taken almost all your guests to this place and if you are not from the city and come to explore you just shouldn’t miss going here. Vishala is a village themed place in the open and has a pretty cultural and authentic gujju feel to it. As soon as you enter, the fragrance of the place will fill you up with joy, small lanterns placed all across the entrance area and slow Gujarati folk music playing. Vishala is not just about food, it is an absolute experience. Vishala has its own museum which house antiques like locks, vessels, trunks etc. in varied shapes and sizes. There is even an in house shop which sells kutcha work kurtis, juttis, snack, mukhwaas and so much more!
“Atithi Devo Bhaava” (Guest is God),
Coming to the most important part “THE FOOD” which served on leaves all sewed together. Here there is nothing that is served in plastic from the bowls to glass, spoons everything is biodegradable. A huge spread now awaits you with more than 10 types of Farsan (snacks), pickles, salads, etc. making a great combination of condiments. The starters comprise of either Muthiya, Dhokla and such other varities, with main course being 4 types of shaak (vegetable mix or curries), Rotis, Bhakhri, Thepla, Daal, Rice, Kadhi , Khichdi, sweets of atleast 3 types and what do you want more. At times in fact, at Vishala you really have balance and see if you are not missing out on something and trying to have everything possible in front of you. It is a meal not for the faint hearts because they in fact would serve with so much love as if you have come to their home. They absolutely abide to the notion of you will be so full by the end of the meal that it will definitely take a while until the food settles in and you can with your overly stuffed stomach can get up.
Once you are out of the dining area, you would so want to just lie down and how perfect will it be to lie on the Khatias under the sky and if it super breezy it is as we say “sone pe suhaga”. You cannot lie down on the Khatias for the rest of your life even how inviting and peaceful it may seem. While heading out you will be up for yet another treat of Paan and icecream which is absolutely desi and not that creamy but so tasty.
Nothing at Vishala can go wrong so next time you are in Ahmedabad make sure you visit this gem of a place and those in Ahmedabad, don’t wait for guests from outside Ahmedabad to come, just go and enjoying the surreal atmosphere of this place.
Concluding by saying Vishala is not just another restaurant, it is an altogether experience which until you don’t go you will not understand. So next time you go to Vishala make sure you enjoy to the fullest and let us know your comments as well by writing back to us.
Happy Eating!!!
Cheers!!!
