As the eldest and only daughter in a family of five, Shariza’s formative years were shaped by the guidance and love of her mother. This maternal influence instilled in her the values of independence and leadership, qualities that would become defining attributes throughout her life. Graduating with a Bachelor of Computer Engineering (Hons) from the University Kuala Lumpur – Malaysian Institute of Information Technology in 2011, Shariza embarked on her professional journey with a position as a Wintel Engineer at Hewlett Packard Malaysia.
Eight years into her career, Shariza embraced the challenges of Security Operations, recognizing it as a promising avenue for growth. It was during this transition that she faced the unfamiliar territory of Security Operations while working as a Regional Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for MetLife Asia. The obstacles were significant, but with the guidance of her mentor, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of MetLife, she navigated the complexities of the field.
In the male-dominated IT security arena, Shariza faced initial resistance and a lack of respect. But she persevered, guided by a belief that success is not just about greatness but consistent hard work. She acknowledges the scarcity of female leaders in Malaysia but finds fulfillment in being extraordinary in a rare field.
Today, as the Section Head of the IT Security Operations Center at Aeon Credit Service (M) Berhad, Shariza continues to push boundaries and challenge stereotypes. Her leadership style is marked by a unique blend of strength and compassion, a duality cultivated through her experiences as both a supportive elder sister and a cybersecurity leader.
Shariza actively contributes to the economy by safeguarding intellectual property, ensuring business continuity, fostering trust and confidence, enabling digital transformation, supporting regulatory compliance, and creating jobs within the cybersecurity sector. Her role is not just about managing daily operations but about fortifying organizations against cyber threats, contributing to the stability and growth of the economy.

In 2020, Shariza faced one of the most challenging periods of her life when her mother battled and succumbed to cancer. Simultaneously, she was tasked with managing a significant project for MetLife Asia. The support and understanding of her manager, Chan Kwok San, became a lifeline during this trying time, demonstrating the human side of leadership.
Shariza’s vision extends beyond her immediate role; she sees cybersecurity as an integral part of a company’s business appetite. Integrating cybersecurity considerations into overall risk management and strategic decision-making processes is crucial. It involves assessing risks, aligning with business objectives, investing in cybersecurity, involving leadership, and ensuring compliance with regulations.
Balancing personal and professional spheres is a continuous challenge, and Shariza openly acknowledges that it’s not a perfect equilibrium. However, she finds solace and joy in activities that bring her happiness, from spending time with family and 16 beloved cats to indulging in beach trips that rejuvenate her spirit.
The COVID-19 pandemic did not alter Shariza’s professional trajectory; she continued to manage large-scale projects across the Asia-Pacific region. MetLife’s supportive approach, emphasizing employee well-being, ensured a smooth transition to remote work. The pandemic became an opportunity for virtual engagement, demonstrating that even in challenging times, effective communication and collaboration are pillars of resilience.
From attaining Dean’s List Honors throughout her academic journey to securing a distinguished position as one of the “Top 25 Cybersecurity Stars of the Year 2023,” Shariza’s accolades illuminate a trail of remarkable achievements. Her recognition includes being honored by Insights Success Business Magazine as the “Most Influential Cybersecurity Leader to Follow In 2024.”
