Global Leader in Business Compliance
With almost 2 decades of experience in Global Finance, the dynamic Arnaud Wenger has developed a deep passion for enhancing Business Compliance. His expertise centers on creating a compliance edge through detailed risk assessment, sharp regulatory insights, and innovative product strategies.
Presently, he is the Compliance Officer – APAC and Group Head of Enterprise Risk Management & ESG at PPRO Singapore; Director – General Counsel at the Luxembourg and Japan based Sakura Linkage International; Advisory Board Member at Emulai; and Board Member at LëtzBlock – Luxembourg Blockchain & DLT Association.
Currently based between Singapore and Luxembourg, Arnaud was born in France and spent his early life in Douala (Cameroon, Africa) where his parents worked. In an idyllic childhood, he grew up surrounded by animals like dogs, monkeys, and a parrot at home amidst beautiful nature.
After completing his schooling, he obtained 2 Master’s degrees in Law as well as Business Administration, and began his career at a law firm in France. He next moved to an asset management company in Luxembourg, eventually focussing on helping FinTech startups set up proper compliance governance to get a financial license. By now, he had realized his passion to create a standardized and global framework from a compliance perspective, in order to support global business.
“During my time managing commercial contracts in asset management companies, I was taken aback by the inconsistencies in anti-money laundering procedures and governance across our varied clientele. This sparked a crucial realization – there was an urgent need for a uniform, efficient system that could effortlessly merge business operations with stringent compliance standards, without placing unnecessary burdens on customers.”
Driven by this vision, Arnaud climbed the ladder of global compliance. With his diverse range of experiences and accomplishments, he got the opportunity to oversee global standardization projects and put into place effective governance mechanisms. His commitment to upholding the highest standards in a rapidly evolving financial landscape is evident in his achievements in AML & CFT Compliance, Risk Management, Governance, Product Design, Strategy, and Operations. Known for building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, he excels in resolving complex issues and driving business scalability. A proven leader, he has successfully scaled organizations and managed diverse teams across Europe, MENA, and Asia.
Three strengths that have been instrumental in Arnaud’s success are – Effective teamwork; A comprehensive understanding of different functional languages; and Problem-solving, which is enhanced by the first two. “I find enjoyment in working on various projects. Before running a business, or supporting a client or employer, I analyze the project. If it sounds exciting, I dedicate time to it. The ‘fun’ aspect comes from two factors – the complexity of the project, which presents an opportunity to solve problems, as well as the social connections that can be established with clients, employers, or colleagues by turning their projects into reality.”
Unknown to many, Arnaud also harbors a love for mythology (particularly from Eurasia) and heroic fantasy. As a proud member of the ‘Geek’ community, particularly within the realm of role-playing games, he views his professional journey as a collective adventure. One which necessitates creativity and a sense of community, guided by strategic planning and strong governance.
In 2018, he was honored with a CEO award at Credit Suisse Luxembourg for the guide he proposed. In 2023 in Dubai, he was recognized as a ‘Leader for Technology’ for implementing effective governance in FinTech. In between the two, he overcame the challenge of the pandemic.
Beyond the necessity to rethink business operations, Arnaud found that the greatest challenge was in managing human relationships. Different reactions from individuals created a tense atmosphere, with unease and fear towards the virus leading some to act out of character. Therefore, his initial focus was on rebuilding unity and trust within his teams. Once the group cohesion was restored, he turned his attention towards work automation and digitalization.
“One of the things I value most is mentoring my team and seeing them grow, which I believe speaks to the power of shared knowledge. I firmly believe in putting people first; a strong, cohesive team can weather any
unforeseen challenges. In any problem, there are at least two solutions waiting to be discovered.”
He carries the same thought in his personal life. His family serves as a loving reminder that success encompasses both professional triumphs and personal joy. Arnaud too does his bit to maintain this mix of professional commitment, mentorship, and a deep appreciation for work-life balance.
“The key is in managing priorities rather than compartmentalizing them. After all, success encompasses not only achievements but also cherishing life’s moments with loved ones and making a positive impact. So, strive tirelessly, but don’t forget to live fully. Growth, development, and success lie in this delicate, yet essential balance.”
