Building a Global Healthtech Future from India

In an era when healthcare systems worldwide are racing toward digitization, few leaders have managed to blend technological innovation with human empathy as seamlessly as Shridhar Purohit. With over two decades of experience at the intersection of healthcare, technology, and strategy, Purohit stands among those rare professionals who see beyond code and systems, to the lives transformed by them.

Currently serving as Head and Director of Healthcare Offerings for the U.S. markets at Tietoevry, he shared his inspiring journey, vision, and leadership philosophy. His story reflects the spirit of modern India, an India that’s not only engineering the world’s digital backbone but also reimagining global healthcare through innovation and purpose.
For Purohit, the journey began not with ambition, but with curiosity. “I’ve always been fascinated by how technology can touch lives,” he reflects. “It’s not just about innovation; it’s about impact.” That simple curiosity became the foundation of his career, a compass that guided him through the early stages of India’s digital revolution and into global leadership roles where healthcare transformation met technological possibility.

From building digital infrastructures to orchestrating end-to-end transformation programs worth millions of dollars, Purohit’s professional trajectory has been marked by a rare balance of vision and execution. Today, he leads multi-stakeholder initiatives spanning providers, payers, and pharmacy benefit managers, driving the evolution of healthcare ecosystems that are agile, data-driven, and deeply human-centric.

At Tietoevry, his leadership philosophy centers around one powerful principle, purposeful innovation. “Technology should simplify, not complicate. It should connect, not divide. Above all, it should serve,” he explains. For Purohit, technology’s ultimate goal is not automation but augmentation, helping doctors, patients, and policymakers make better, faster, and more compassionate decisions. His team’s work emphasizes designing solutions that not only meet regulatory or operational needs but also directly improve accessibility, continuity, and quality of care.

He envisions technology as an equalizer. “Healthcare should not be a privilege, it should be a right,” he says with conviction. “Digital innovation gives us the means to make that possible, by taking care of people, not the other way around.” It’s this philosophy that drives his work to build scalable, interoperable, and secure digital health ecosystems capable of addressing some of the most persistent inequities in global healthcare delivery.

Those who have worked closely with Purohit describe him as a transformational leader, calm in the face of challenges, decisive when clarity is needed, and deeply collaborative by nature. “I believe leadership isn’t about control, it’s about trust,” he shares. “If you build an environment where people feel empowered to think, fail, and grow, innovation becomes a culture, not an event.”

Yet, even the most driven leaders must learn balance. Purohit candidly acknowledges, “I’ve always been someone who takes on too much because I genuinely care about making a difference. Over time, I’ve realized leadership also means stepping back, allowing others to rise and lead.” This self-awareness and humility are central to his success, and to his reputation as a mentor who nurtures future leaders with both rigor and compassion.

Beyond the office, Purohit finds renewal in reflection. “You can’t lead well if you don’t live well,” he says. His personal rituals include reading on emerging technologies and leadership psychology, meditating, and taking long walks to reset the mind. “Stillness is underrated,” he smiles. “That’s where clarity happens.” His love for art and music further fuels his creativity, reminding him that imagination is not separate from strategy but essential to it.

His dedication has not gone unnoticed. Purohit has been honoured with the Best Speaking Session Award at HIMSS Chicago for his talk on closing care gaps through digital health, as well as the Healthcare Excellence Award at Dubai Health 2.0. His whitepapers and thought leadership pieces on next-generation healthcare models have been recognized for their foresight and practical depth. But for him, recognition is not the destination, it’s affirmation that the purpose is right. “Awards are milestones,” he notes, “but the real reward is when your work touches lives you’ll never meet.”

Purohit’s influence extends to academia as well. As a guest lecturer and chief guest at leading engineering and MBA institutions, he shares his experiences with students eager to understand how technology can serve humanity. His message to them is consistent: “Be curious. Be fearless. But never forget that empathy is your most powerful tool.”

Looking ahead, Purohit envisions a future where India leads the global healthtech frontier, not merely as a provider of software talent but as a creator of transformative healthcare solutions. “We have the intellect, the innovation, and the intent,” he asserts. “What we need now is a collective belief that world-class healthcare technology can be built, scaled, and led from India, for the world.”

When asked what advice he would give to the next generation of innovators, Purohit pauses thoughtfully before saying, “Blend ambition with purpose. Let your success create space for others to succeed. And remember, technology has meaning only when it uplifts humanity.”

As healthcare continues its global digital metamorphosis, leaders like Shridhar Purohit remind us that the heart of innovation still beats in empathy. His story is not just about building platforms or leading transformations, it’s about reimagining what healthcare can be when intelligence meets intention.

“The future of healthcare won’t be defined by technology alone, but by the compassion with which we apply it,” says Purohit.
