Imagine leaving everything behind to chase a dream in a foreign land. Harpreet Kaur did just that, embarking on a journey from her homeland to Canada armed with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and an unyielding spirit. Little did she know that her path would twist from healthcare to becoming a beacon of hope for countless immigrants.
Early Years and Education
Harpreet arrived in Canada as an international student with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Initially pursuing an Advance education in palliative care Nursing to become a registered nurse, her interests soon expanded to immigration law. “Each step brought me closer to a fulfilling profession where I can make a positive impact on people’s lives,” she reflects. After obtaining permanent residency, she returned to school, earned her RCIC licence and entered the field of immigration law.
Transition to Immigration
Her time at the International Student Centre during her studies opened her eyes to the myriad challenges faced by newcomers, igniting her passion for helping others navigate the complex immigration landscape. “Guiding individuals through the challenges they face and seeing them succeed gives me a profound sense of achievement,” she says.
Creating CAN Pathways
The idea for CAN Pathways Immigration Consultancy was born out of Harpreet’s personal journey through the maze of immigration. Her goal was to guide individuals through obtaining study visas, work visas, permanent residency, and citizenship, ensuring their transitions were as smooth as possible.
Overcoming Challenges
Starting a business is never easy, and Harpreet faced her share of hurdles. Transitioning from healthcare to immigration consultancy was a drastic change. She had to obtain the necessary license, which involved going back to school. Then, the COVID-19 pandemic drastically altered the business landscape. “Navigating these changes required immense strength, motivation, and support from close friends and family,” she recalls. Despite these challenges, CAN Pathways grew from zero to 25 employees in just a few years. “While luck played a part, it is the hard work we put in every single day that has brought us to where we are today,” she asserts.
Passion and Purpose
Harpreet’s deep-seated passion for helping others has been a constant throughout her career. Whether in healthcare or immigration, her fundamental desire to assist others drives her. “Seeing them achieve their dreams and knowing I was part of their journey and helped make their dreams come true is what truly drives me,” she adds.

A Sunday Morning Routine
On Sunday mornings, Harpreet can be found at home, enjoying a peaceful start with her daughter and partner. “We follow a relaxed morning routine of brushing our teeth, having breakfast, and then taking a leisurely walk in the park,” she shares. Her hobbies include reading, yoga, and nature walks, which help her unwind and maintain balance.
