I t is a feeling that can only be experienced better than explained, the feeling of travelling solo. Being a Solo traveller myself for some years, I have observed that there is a huge brouhaha about female solo travelling, so much so that it leaves the topic of male’s solo travel way behind and completely devoid of even a fair discussion. All kinds of media’s obviously biased focus on female solo travel make it look like that it is only women who travel solo and only they need tips on do’s and don’ts of travelling alone. Well, it appears quite unfair to me.
I took up surfing and reading through the minimal available data where men shared their views on solo travel as well as their motivating and contributing factors to do so. A few of them include Adventure, Expedition, Self-discovery, Freedom, Solitude, Being independent and for some, it’s the sheer joy of travelling on their own terms. I thought of jotting down here some of the best cities that I think would make great choices for a male solo traveller.

There’s no greater happiness than taking a solo journey to a fabulous destination with guy preferred options, of sorts like happening nightlife, amiable women to connect with, adventure sports, good food, and also the me-time spots. To get you on your way, here is the list of the top 14 cities that can help you plan your long- awaited solo trip. And I recommend all these places as I have been to each one of them myself and enjoyed my time there. LONDON, ENGLAND My most favourite city in the world, London holds the aura of uniqueness beyond all the grooviness it held in history. It is a rocking, swinging charismatic place you would relish all your life having visited. The city boasts a variety of dining spaces, incredible nightclubs and pubs to enhance your experience even if that includes a thing as small as watching your favourite sports being played. Speak of royalty and see London.
PARIS, FRANCE The global idea of walking arms-in-arms with your beloved near Eiffel tower may largely be associated with this fashion city, but mind you, witnessing the sights solo and being on your own in cafes watching your own thoughts could really be an experience worth taking. Enjoying Paris’s amazing nightlife at sundown adds beauty to this french vacation and makes it more memorable.
STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN Stockholm is a cultural and phrenic epicentre and a real visual retreat. A place for the thinking-man (and of course women too) who craves for a lot of beauty besides the mind work to do in the museums and art galleries, this city provides a platter with an array of all things beautiful. Well known for its stunning festive markets and decorations, Stockholm is also home to the world’s tallest Christmas tree. Imagine being amidst the Mistletoe, grandiose lights, the epic tree by the waterfront, and you bump into that romantic fairytale damsel of yours? Sounds interesting!! Go for it!
BERLIN, GERMANY Host to some of the amazing festivals in Germany every year, boasting of its multicultural street food to some of the most affordable and comfortable accommodations, Berlin will lengthen and beautify your visualisation of what a visit to Germany can be and that too all by yourself.
BUDAPEST, HUNGARY Encompassing a lot of history and beautiful architecture to showcase, Budapest has some of the best and unique bars in Europe. It’s iconic “ruin pubs” bars situated unbelievably but beautifully inside falling down, historic ruins and structures are my personal favourite. Don’t miss pub-hoping if you are in Budapest. This is a very charming and mesmerising city, ideal for strolling around the cobblestone streets and exploring on your own.
AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS The city that needs no advertisement. Walking through the city’s narrow, winding streets or finding yourself in love with its famous canals, exploring the world-famous Van Gogh museum or getting lost in its extravagant nightlife, the choices of getting spoiled in Amsterdams are handsome. Friendly caution: Don’t go overboard if you’re alone, one tends to get astray in the maze of the glittering and magnetic allure of this city.
OSLO, NORWAY Nestled between the Oslofjord and forested hills, Oslo is an extremely attractive option to a nature lover’s eyes. The magnanimous and safe tiny city centre is easily explorable on foot, by bike, and the friendly public transport. Night view of this city is breathtaking and is something that touched my heart personally. The highlight and city’s identity is the Live music and Oslo’s clubs and arenas host thousands of concerts every year showcasing the famous and followed local as well as international brands.
BARCELONA, SPAIN Well, well..the nightlife of this sun- drenched city alone is worth your visit there, things start late in the night and go on until early morning hours. Barcelona is really a paradise for anyone who loves the two- food and drinks. What adds colour to this already vibrant place is that it is usually frequented by young enthusiastic travellers from across the world for all the same famous pullers: the top-class cuisine, the welcoming culture, and the energetic nightlife.
IBIZA, SPAIN Spain again guys! And this time it is one of the world’s most glamorous, wild, lively, dramatically mesmerising and coruscating destinations which would hardly any day not get a yes tick to go with on a traveller’s list. If you are the one who likes partying with the sun up till the sundown, this island should make it to the top of your list. Dreaming of 24-hour parties, book yourself to Ibiza. The legendary picture of its all-day, all-night, all-week vibrant energetic life, that I carried with me in my memories is still so very fresh and so very fragrant.
GOA, INDIA A hot spot for Europeans and Russians, India’s very own Goa is famous for its unspoiled beaches, wide green countrysides, and the infamous crazy all-night parties. Explore this place on a bike, or a guided tour by the day and then loosen up and lose yourself in the engaging trance music from sunset till sunrise.
BANGKOK, THAILAND The hyped and cliched holiday spot, Bangkok is one of the most adventurous, inexpensive, hedonistic spaces to be in. The most male tourist frequented city is one of the best- known solo male travel destinations for its own good reasons.
HONG KONG, CHINA Pulsating with energy and neon lights, this city is the frame showing East merging with the West. Contrary to the considered idea of this city as a rarefied and sauve one, the people of Hong Kong party really hard with lots drinks, for them nights means clubs, fun means music, and exploration means adventure. Explore Hong Kong, by spending your days strolling on the pavement, looking at the skyscrapers, shopping amazing clothes and then partying hard in the night.
BALI, INDONESIA Whatever you have on your list to do during a vacation, you will probably find it in Bali. You can stay here for a month and still explore only a fraction of this amazing Indonesian island. I could never have enough of this place myself.

Bali has a varied number of attractions for all types of visitors to enjoy. MIAMI, USA Do I even have to say a word about Miami? Reckoned globally for its nightlife, Miami has it all for the solo male traveller: beautiful beaches, awesome food, broad-minded culture, lovely landscapes and wonderful people. Enjoy your days and nights on the South Beach or tour yourself out in some of the arts and crafts at the very engaging neighbourhood of Wynwood. Miami will give several brilliant backdrops for those who love clicking and getting clicked.
