A Creative Force Reshaping Biotechnology
In the bustling metropolis of Singapore, where innovation and entrepreneurship converge, there’s a visionary figure making waves in the world of biotechnology – Dr. Eugene He. Founder and CEO of Qurio, a biotechnology-focused consumer brand incubator, Dr. He is crafting a legacy that promises to redefine the future of wellness and longevity.
At the heart of Dr. He’s business empire is Qurio, a dynamic hub where science, creativity, and commerce unite. “We are a biotechnology-focused consumer brand incubator,” Dr. He explains. “Our portfolio of brands includes Invity, a longevity science-based skin care and wellness brand, Xandro, a performance nutrition brand, and LYI, a luxury skin care brand based on mineral science. I also lead QUVO, a vertically integrated innovation lab and manufacturing facility specializing in phytochemistry research and product formulations.”
To create a vertically integrated ecosystem that accelerates biotechnology research and the commercialization of discoveries. and with a presence spanning Singapore, Malaysia, China, the USA, the UK, and Australia, Qurio is poised to make a global impact.
Challenges are no strangers to Dr. He, and he faces them head-on. “Most of the challenges that we face arise from the fact that we are creating a new space within the industry,” he shares. “This means we have to develop solutions internally to address these issues. As a relatively new business, we also have to deal with growing pains and scalability issues, which are inevitable.”
Yet, for Dr. He, the most formidable challenges often revolve around people, not situations. “There is no fixed method to address these problems,” he admits. It’s in these moments that hard work shines. “Running and managing a business is always challenging, and if managed well, the battle is half won.”
As for the role of luck, Dr. He remains pragmatic. “While I generally try not to attribute achievements or defeats to luck, there are some uncontrolled factors that can affect a business greatly, such as the pandemic, that are purely based on timing.”
Peering into Dr. He’s life reveals a common thread – an insatiable passion for creation. “For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been passionate about ‘creating,'” he confesses. “I see a lot of value and interest in invention, and seeing the result drives me to want to do more.” This passion has been the driving force behind his career, centered on product development and longevity science research.
In a world often divided between “rats” and “tigers,” Dr. He is a maverick. “I have always been a maverick so I do not find myself conforming to being in a rat race or being a tiger,” he reflects. Instead, he sees himself as a horse, embodying stamina, freedom, speed, agility, and curiosity to explore the uncharted.
Eugene He’s inspiration transcends boundaries. “Being alive and being human is a limitless gift,” he muses. “I am inspired by how far mankind can reach and the expansiveness of our imagination and creativity.” In the immediate future, he envisions establishing Qurio as a world-leading incubator of desirable brands. His personal quest involves exploring the world to find solutions to contemporary challenges.
Dr. He’s professional journey boasts a remarkable tapestry of achievements. As a product formulator, he’s birthed over 50 products in the market today, earning recognition with over 20 beauty and product awards. As an entrepreneur, accolades have poured in, including the ‘CEO of the Year’ award by Prime Awards and Titan’s ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ in the beauty category.
His influence extends to the media as well, with features in illustrious publications such as Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Newsweek, and Yahoo. In a surprising twist, he’s been selected as the host of a forthcoming travel docuseries that explores the lengths people go to for their health.
For Dr. He, leadership is both a talent and a journey. “I once used to think that leadership is something that can be learned in school,” he reflects. “But I do think that true leadership is a natural talent.” He believes that genuine leaders inspire others to become better versions of themselves. Whether leaders create more leaders or followers is secondary; the world, he believes, naturally balances this equation.
In closing, Dr. He imparts a vision of hope. “I would love to see more interest in the space of longevity science,” he says. “The extension of the average human lifespan is very possible in our lifetime with our existing know-how and technologies.” His wish is for everyone to experience long, productive lives.
Dr. Eugene He’s journey is an example to the power of innovation, creativity, and relentless determination. His legacy, driven by a profound passion for creation and a commitment to the betterment of humanity, is one that will continue to shape the landscape of biotechnology and wellness for generations to come.
