The Catalyst For Change
Dilip Prasad’s odyssey through academia, research, and entrepreneurship has been a tapestry woven with diverse experiences. His saga began in the hallowed halls of Philips and IBM, where he honed his craft as a software engineer, gleaning invaluable industry acumen. Yearning for deeper knowledge, he embarked on a doctoral pursuit, culminating in a prestigious PhD. His thirst for discovery propelled him to research positions at NTU and NUS, where he flourished.
As a professor at UiT, Dilip has spearheaded groundbreaking AI research projects, enriching the scientific landscape with many publications. He is an architect of multidisciplinary collaborations, fostering a symphony of knowledge across various fields. Driven by an insatiable desire to bridge the gap between theory and practice, he established Ayun AI and Finiac Pte. Ltd. These ventures not only honed his leadership and innovation prowess but also served as a crucible for his technical expertise to blossom in the real world.
Dilip’s entrepreneurial portfolio resonates with a harmonious blend of pioneering AI-powered solutions and impactful medical technology. At Ayun AI, he champions the cause of sustainability, meticulously crafting eco-friendly AI technologies that leave a gentle footprint on the environment. Finiac, on the other hand, is revolutionizing emergency response with its portable, life-saving head scanner, a beacon of hope in the fight against stroke and head trauma. Spermotile, another of his ingenious creations, embodies the spirit of hope. This device meticulously filters high-quality sperm, bolstering success rates in assisted reproductive technology (ART).
The entrepreneurial path for Dilip was not without its trials. From navigating discrepancies in vision and mission with co-founders to the arduous task of securing funding and maneuvering through an ecosystem with limited support, there were numerous hurdles to overcome. Singapore, in particular, presented a formidable challenge due to its nascent ecosystem for medtech hardware and a dearth of robust support structures. Talent acquisition was another formidable foe, as the fiercely competitive market made it challenging to attract and retain top-tier professionals. Norway, with its high operational and manpower costs, presented a different set of financial constraints. Yet, Dilip is a firm believer that perseverance, not happenstance, is the cornerstone of success. His unwavering resolve in securing funding, fostering international collaborations, and nurturing a resilient team proved to be the key. His story underscores the enduring truth that unwavering determination ultimately paves the path to sustainable business success.
Dilip doesn’t subscribe to the rat race mentality; he aspires to be a tiger. This philosophy is reflected in his career trajectory. In 2008, he embarked on a challenging research path, fueled by a modest NTU scholarship, having left behind a well-established position in the industry. This odyssey also involved establishing startups, securing investments, and embracing innovation at every turn. It is a testament to his unwavering commitment to forging his path rather than following the well-trodden one.
