Healing Beyond Medicine
There are people who do not only live life but redefine it. They make their adversities stepping stones and their internal battles a beacon of hope for others. Dr. Ruchi Mishra Sharma is one such pioneer, a medical practitioner, an ophthalmologist, trauma healer, bestselling author, and international speaker.
“I am a physician of the body, a healer of the heart and mind, and most importantly, a believer in authenticity, freedom, and honesty,” she assures, her words bearing the weight of experience and the promise of change.
Brought up in a traditional Indian family where academic excellence determined value, Ruchi was a studious and compliant child. She became a medic and an ophthalmologist, cutting out a niche for herself in the high-pressure medical profession.
In 2011, she relocated to the United Kingdom, where none of her Indian medical degrees were recognized. Having to start from the beginning, she passed the tough PLAB 1 and 2 exams, demonstrating her perseverance. “Challenges are the chisel and hammer that bring out the best in you,” she looks back.
Presently, she has been working in the National Health Services, UK, for more than a decade, winning applause not only because of her medical skills but also because of the kindness she shows to patients.
Behind the accolades, however, was a woman silently carrying unhealed scars. Four years ago, Ruchi found herself at her lowest, a burnt-out doctor, struggling with postpartum depression, feeling lost and purposeless. It was then that she was confronted with the buried trauma of childhood sexual abuse that she had carried for more than thirty years.
“That mirror moment forced me to confront my guilt and shame in a head-on way,” she remembers. “It hurt, but it was also the start of my healing.”
She turned to Rapid Transformational Therapy, hypnotherapy, and coaching, all modalities that not only revived her but encouraged her to learn them herself. Studying under such visionaries as Marisa Peer, gaining Level 2 Heart Healing Practitioner status with the School of Healing Mastery, and a Jay Shetty Life and Success Coach certification, she became a testament to her own philosophy: Healing is possible.
As a founder of Freedom and Empowerment Hypnotherapy with Ruchi, she focuses her practice on supporting women in releasing the burden of sexual trauma and childhood abuse. Her mission is straightforward: No girl or woman should suffer in silence.
Her best-selling book, Unleashed – Breaking Free: A Journey of Healing and Freedom, recounts her courage while empowering others to reclaim their lives. Published in anthologies such as Voices of Impact and as co-author of the forthcoming From Burnout to Burning Bright, she also advocates healing on international platforms, including several keynote speeches in Paris. “To break the silence about childhood sexual abuse is to restore dignity to women,” she declares.
Resilience, grit, and empathy are qualities that define Dr. Ruchi, even as she freely admits her challenges, from running everything in business herself to self-judgment and unlearning the “employee mindset.” Her insight, however, is a simple one: “Stay focused on your strengths and let others handle the rest. Failure is simply the first step in learning.”
Outside of healer and professional is a loving mother to her four-year-old son. Parenthood and purpose are the two to her. “My dream is to construct the vessel of his self-worth so sturdy that no challenge can capsize it,” she says. Motherhood, to her, is resilience and compassion, while her “bird’s eye view” allows her to zoom out and look at the larger context. “Giving myself permission to fail has been freeing. Failure is growth disguised,” she smiles.
Her work has been acknowledged globally. She has been awarded the Hoinser Award for Exceptional Leadership, Best Transformational Clinical Hypnotherapist Award 2023, Rising Women Speaker Excellence Award 2024 (Paris), and Courageous Pinnacle Award 2025 (Paris). She has been featured in international magazines and a host of the show The Best Version of You, inspiring thousands daily.
Her advice to the world is simple yet life-changing: “Do the daily self-love exercise. Stand in front of the mirror and repeat, I love you deeply, truly, and unconditionally. Self-acceptance and self-love are the pillars of self-belief.”
